Ladders

There are certain items that simply can’t be done without. Ladders are used for many tasks. This useful tool comes in many different lengths and sizes. They are used by workmen to fix the outside of houses and buildings. A ladder is essential to reach the roof or for painting the walls. There is no way to clean the gutters with out one. They are also used indoors by painters and when hanging pictures. The person who is responsible for cleaning the home will have a small ladder for dusting high spots, hanging curtains and cleaning windows. There seems to be no end to the uses of ladders.

Ladders have been around for a very long time. The first ladders were all wood. It was made up of simple strips of wood for the rungs and it rested against a wall or building. Ladders were developed and the rungs became flat and therefore easier to stand on. Flat rungs made it easier to retain your balance and therefore safer. Eventually the ladder could be used anywhere because it had a fold out backing that supported it like a wall. This made the ladder completely transportable because you did not need a wall to rest the ladder against.

Old ladders are considered as attractive décor items. There are old ladders that are used to add character to a room or a venue such as a restaurant or pub. These are sought after and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find old ladders that have a used and even battered look about them. These are much in demand by interior decorators. They are very partial to old ladders that have worn and distressed looking green or white paint. If the worn wood shows through the ladders are highly desirable. Decorators and home owners sometimes hang interesting items like old pails and camel bags from the rungs.

It’s not just the old ladders that are snapped up. Brand new ladders made from lightweight stainless steel are also put to good use by interior decorators. Those who appreciate a very minimalist and modern look would place one of these ladders in their kitchen. Not only would this ladder be practical but it could be used to get items down from high cupboards. This kind of ladder would be used in the home and be a décor item. If the right size stainless steel ladder is placed in a modern bathroom you could hang white towels neatly over the rungs for a different kind of ‘storage’.
