Metal Detectors

The purpose of this tool is also its name. You will find securities using metals detectors at airports, banks and many other high-security areas. This detector will detect anything metal that a person might be carrying, whether it is in a bag or in a shirt pocket. It not only detects metal you are carrying, but it even detects metal that is found lying on the ground. Many people around the world today use metal detectors to find valuables and treasures. The other thing about these handy tools is that they are able to detect right through plastic and other non-metals materials. This is the X-ray image you see at airports when your bags are being scanned.

As said before you will not only find these detectors at airports and high-security areas, but also in situations where lost items are trying to be found. The same legendary inventor that brought us the telephone is responsible for this invention. Back in the year 1881, the metal detector was invented and only became portable in 1931.

The metal detector is a good conductor of magnetism and electricity. For this reason, the metal detector is affected by electromagnetism.  The metal detector works using a coil that generates a magnetic effect using a battery. When the electromagnetic field of the detector penetrates ground, metals are magnetically charged.

When the coil inside the metal detector detects any electromagnetic behaviour, a signal will be sent to the device. The speaker inside the detector will beep continuously and this will warn the operator that there is metal present. The more modern metal detectors work differently. There are a bit more electronics added to the device, and these are called microprocessors. The microprocessors can indicate the type of metal it detects.

Modern metal detectors include adjustments. This means when you are scanning an individual you will be able to detect a specific metal, and these detectors will be able to tell you exactly what you have detected on the individual by displaying it on the view screen.

Metal detectors can be very simple and can be used to detect metals, and if you do not have the proper training, it will just be a device that will detect metal. If you have the proper training, a metal detector will be able to tell you exactly what metals you have discovered on an individual. Experienced metal detector operators will ignore the beeping sound when scanning a female’s shoulder, because they will know that it is the individual’s brassiere. These operators listen to the different beeping sounds and are able to tell if it is a situation that should be confronted or one that can be ignored.

Metal detectors surely have evolved over the years, and have also become more sophisticated. This is how quickly technology advances, and one day metal detector operators will wear metal detectors in the form of sunglasses and will be able to tell exactly what metals individuals are carrying before they even reach the door of the building they want to enter.
