Treadmills
Does it make sense to own a treadmill? The answer is probably different for everyone. If you like to stay fit or are just getting started owning a treadmill might just be for you. When you think about having to make time to go to the gym, using the fuel to get there, the gym membership fees plus the wear and tear on your vehicle, owning a treadmill might be a very positive thing to do.
The expense of not owning your own treadmill could easily reach hundreds of pounds, maybe even a thousand pounds. When you look at it in this light the initial cost of a treadmill isn’t as daunting. There are many treadmills that can be purchased for a fraction of that yearly cost.
Treadmills are the best source of cardio vascular exercise that you can get in an enclosed environment. You no longer will have to exercise in the cold or even the rain to keep fit when you purchase a treadmill. If space is a concern it shouldn’t be as they have many models that can be folded up and put away. The models that are being manufactured don’t take up as much space if you buy the right one. Treadmills will mimic the exercise you can get when you walk, run or jog.
Some of the brand name treadmills that are on the market today are produced by Life Fitness, Horizon, and Kettler. Many of these companies have been in the exercise equipment business for many years and produce quality products that will last for a long time.
Features that you should look for in a treadmill would be the parts that are used and any warranties that may be offered.
When looking at any warranties that are part of the purchase price you should know whether or not it includes the motor and frame. Will it cover labour and parts or just the parts? The more inclusive the warranty the better it will be for the owner. It is helpful if the warranty states that a technician will come to your home to fix the treadmill should it need it, rather than you having to take it back to where it was purchased.
When choosing the treadmill make sure the dimensions fit into your space when you are using it. Several of the models fold up for storage, but you will need adequate space when you are using it. Always make sure that the area you are going to use it in has a wall socket to plug it into. Using an extension lead is not recommended by many of the manufacturers.
The treadmill motor should be at least a 1.5 continuous horsepower with a 3.0 horsepower motor if you intend to do a lot of long distance running. Anything less would be inadequate for your needs.
Make sure the belt of the treadmill is wide enough to be comfortable; an orthopaedic belt will give you even more of a cushion. Choosing a treadmill with incline capabilities is important for getting the most from your workout; they come in manual or motor driven models. Always purchase the best treadmill for the amount of money you can spend for optimum results.
